This past Tuesday evening I attended a postcard-writing activity held at a local brewery. The aim is to send a postcard encouraging every registered Democrat in swing states who did not vote during the 2022 midterms to be sure to vote in the upcoming election. It turns out that only a little over 21% of Democrats bothered to go to the polls in 2022. (Republicans fared only a little better.)

The stakes this time are so much higher. If we have any chance of beating back this fascist regime, it is by retaking one or both houses of Congress. Most people are certainly fed up with a useless, illegal war; skyrocketing prices for pretty much everything; stupid tariffs and trade wars; masked goons targeting people of color, regardless of their status, and tossing them into concentration camps without due process; destructive, expensive vanity projects… and the list goes on and on and on. What we have to do is transform that dissatisfaction into action!

The mailing lists we use are generated from publicly available information, and while we are also given suggested scripts to follow (often including important information about the particular state’s candidates), the messages come from the heart, at least for me: please vote this time. Please support the candidates who are going to hold the Trump regime accountable. Don’t sit this one out — our democracy depends on it.

Research shows that people who receive this kind of nudge do, in fact, get to the polls at numbers far higher than those who are not nudged.
