I expected to be more, um, wordy in the run-up to today. But various “get out the vote” activities, family and other obligations… ah, you know the drill. But here we are. I am in the airport awaiting a flight to San Francisco (tech conference). I’ll keep tabs on the returns from there.
What do I expect? I’m hoping for a blue tsunami, of course, to start sweeping this wicked administration into the dustbin of history where it belongs. I think it’s at least possible that we will end up with a blue House and maybe even a blue Senate.
I am hoping that none of the various rumors about what Trump and his minions may do to disrupt or overturn the election will prove true. Until the new Congress is sworn in and seated on January 3rd, however, I am reminded of this very important truth: “Constant vigilance is the price of liberty.”
—So let’s be vigilant. That means tracking our ballots today, donating to groups working to safeguard our democracy and to meet any bogus legal challenges that this regime cooks up. It means countering and correcting the lies about election security and (statistically nonexistent) voter fraud we come across on social media and in conversations. It means educating ourselves even more about what information sources are worthy of our trust and attention.
Here’s hoping with all my heart that with our votes today, we will have stopped this fascist regime from getting further entrenched. It’s still a long way to 2028, but being able to put the brakes on at least some of the terrible policies and practices of this band of grifters and opportunists is a victory.
